The split wasn’t amicable, and for years, people referenced an unnamed health condition at the root of the band’s breakup.
Now, McCary is sharing what that health condition is: multiple sclerosis.
For more than two decades, Michael McCary was a part of one of the most successful music acts of the ‘80s and ‘90s, until he and Boyz II Men parted ways in 2003.

The split wasn’t amicable, and for years, people referenced an unnamed health condition at the root of the band’s breakup. Now, McCary is sharing what that health condition is: multiple sclerosis.
“When I first saw of the ailments start to happen, it was like little back spasms at first, and it would get stronger and stronger,” McCary, 44, said on Iyanla Vanzant’s show. “Once I was about 22, it started going full scale.”
It was this diagnosis that created strife between McCary and the other members of the group. McCary said that after he left the group in 2003, Nathan and Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman “abandoned” him and chose to go on without him.

“I want to be able to go in a room with them and not feel like I want to choke them.”
Wanya Morris appeared on Oprah: Where Are They Now and explained McCary’s health issues as just “back issues.”
“One of the problems was he had a back issue,” said Morris. “It could have been fixed; instead, he stopped coming to work and we had to move forward without him—and he wasn’t happy about that.”
