Prosecutors said Goodson's failure to secure Gray in a seat belt or get him prompt medical attention made him guilty of second-degree depraved heart murder. He was also charged with manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment, and misconduct in office.

Of all of the officers, Goodson faced the most charges and still received no punishment for
the death of Gray.
Some fear this decision foreshadows unfavorable verdicts to come for the remaining officers who each face less severe charges than Goodson's.
Although the prosecution claimed Goodson had many opportunities to aid the very injured Gray at the beginning of the ride, the defense argued the timeline of events suggests Gray sustained most of his injuries towards the end of the ride, giving Goodson little time to seek help.
The rest of the officers are set to appear in court later this summer.
