“I think it’s great with all that is happening…and hopefully this will allow us to get more recognition out of it,” Lowe said.
Lowe said that outside of the bridge scene, there may be a chance other places in Phenix City will be featured as well.
During filming, numerous detours will be provided for those needing to cross the river to get into Columbus, such as taking Dillingham Street, Third Avenue and other areas.
According to Phenix City Police Chief Raymond Smith, the studio will provide for detour signs, barricades and personnel to direct traffic. In addition, there will be 10 to 12 Phenix City officers that will direct traffic for the duration of the film shoot.
Smith, who said he was approached by the film studio in April regarding the film project, said the studio applied for permits with both the city and Columbus, but that Columbus operates the bridge.

Smith said he is confident that the film crew, which will include close to 200 people, will affect the region by the money spent in restaurants and hotels in the area.

“Need for Speed” is an upcoming film featuring actors Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), Michael Keaton (“Batman”) and Dominic Cooper (“The Devil’s Double”). According to www.imdb.com, the film tells the story of a “street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate [and] joins a cross country race with revenge in mind.” It is set for release March 2014.
