Actress Jennifer Holliday Will Be Starring In Broadway Musical "Color Purple"

BHR Hollywood Reports.............Jennifer Holliday will make her return to Broadway, 35 years after her "Dreamgirls" debut.

The 55-year-old iconic performer will take on the role of Shug Avery on Broadway's "The Color Purple," replacing singer Heather Headley, who will give her final performance Oct. 2.

The Color Purple" -- now playing at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre -- stars Tony winner Cynthia Erivo at Celie, a woman who overcomes unimaginable tragedies on her journey to self-worth.

The musical, direct by John Doyle, is an adaptation of Alice Walker's 1982 novel and subsequent 1985 film.
