NYPD Sergeant Kizzy Adonis Has Been Charged With Wrongdoing In The Death Of Eric Garner
NYPD Sgt. Kizzy Adonis Has Turned In Her Gun And Badge
BHR Hollywood Reports........... New York City police sergeant has been stripped of her gun and badge in connection with the July 2014 death of Eric Garner, a 43-year-old black Staten Island man who died after police to administer a controversial chokehold.

New York Police Department Sgt. Kizzy Adonis was one of the supervising officers at the scene of Garner's death on Staten Island during an arrest on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes.

She was not part of the team out investigating that day but heard the radio call and was nearby and responded to the scene. Adonis is black and so was Garner.

Officials said Friday that Adonis was charged with failure to supervise, an internal disciplinary sanction. Sgt. Ed Mullins, the head of her union, called the charge ridiculous and political.

"She didn't have to go there — she chose to go there to help out and look what happens," he said, adding it was Commissioner William Bratton, not Adonis, who is to blame. "This incident stems from failed policies that ultimately led to the death of Eric Garner."

The Garner family did not immediately respond to an email sent to one of its members Friday night.

He pointed out that Adonis was near the scene on another task and joined the response after hearing on her radio about developments.

"She chose to go there to help out and look what happens," the Los Angeles Times quoted Mullins as saying.

"This incident stems from failed (NYPD) policies that ultimately led to the death of Eric Garner."

In December 2014, a grand jury opted not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo in the death. The decision prompted marches and protests across the country.
