BHR Hollywood Reports.............Timbaland has left his role as music supervisor on Fox TV’s hip-hop soap opera Empire.

Timbaland had been in charge of creating songs on plot points he developed for the show for its first two seasons. But Columbia Records say they wanted to take the music in a different direction for its upcoming third season.

Beyonce producer Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins’ will now replace Timbaland, working with songwriter Ester Dean, who has written songs for Katy Perry, Little Mix and Lil Wayne.

We were happy to work with Timbaland during the first two seasons," said Shawn Holiday, senior VP of A&R for Columbia Records. "But we wanted to take a different approach for season three."

Jerkins and Dean, who have worked with the likes of Beyoncé, Michael Jackson, Brandy, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and more, collectively, seem to be the perfect people for the job, according to Holiday.

"Rodney is a dynamic, multi-format producer experienced in urban, rhythmic and pop," he said. "And Dean excels at writing big songs with catchy hooks."

The third season of Empire premieres on September 21 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
