BHR Hollywood Report...........The 2016 BET Awards will pay tribute to Prince with an all-star lineup that includes The Roots, D’Angelo, Janelle Monae and the Purple One’s former drummer/lover, Sheila E.

In a tweet announcing the special nod to the legendary singer who died on April 21 at age 57, the channel also promised that more acts will be announced at a later date.

The Roots
The BET honor comes just weeks after the network sent out a tweet taunting Madonna for her homage to Prince at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, in which they promised the late singer “Don’t worry. We got you.”

Sheila E
The Tonight Show house band member and Roots drummer Questlove helped produce the Billboard tribute to Prince and defended Madonna’s performance, tweeting “just to sing his work is brave enough.”

In 2010 BET honored Prince with their Lifetime Achievement Award. The 2016 BET Awards will also feature performances from Maxwell, Alicia Keys and more.

This already sounds incredible! BET Networks announced some of the artists who will pay tribute to Prince at the 2016 BET Awards later this month.

D'Angelo
The network revealed on June 7, Prince’s birthday, that Sheila E. (his ex-fiancée), The Roots, D’Angelo and Janelle Monáe will perform during a “special musical celebration” in honor of the late “Purple Rain” singer, who would have turned 58 this year.

More performers are expected to be announced at a later date.

Last month, Madonna closed out the 2016 Billboard Music Awards with an emotional tribute to her late friend.

She performed his hit “Nothing Compares 2 U” before being joined onstage by Stevie Wonder for a soulful rendition of “Purple Rain.”
