Comments Made Against Derek Fisher
The NBA suspended Memphis forward Matt Barnes for two games for an offseason altercation, in which Barnes reportedly drove to Los Angeles to confront Knicks coach Derek Fisher over his relationship with Barnes’s estranged wife Gloria Govan.
"I don't talk to snakes," Barnes told reports. He also referred to the Knicks coach as a "snitch."
"I just don't like him, plain and simple," Barnes said. "He knows I don't like him.
Don't say nothing to me, I don't plan on saying nothing to him. Don't try to shake my hand.
There's none of that. There's nothing there. There never will be. Just stay away from me basically."
“Matt Barnes’ comments condoning violence do not reflect who we are as a league or the character of our players,” said NBA VP of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe.
In celebration of MLK Day, the NBA star posted an image of the civil rights leader with the caption:
A man who stood up for what he BELIEVED in, a man that spoke the TRUTH & ALWAYS spoke from the HEART!
In life staying true to yourself, comes w hardships & consequences... You have to be willing to except WHATEVER comes with it! Sometime standing alone isn't the popular choice, BUT ITS THE RIGHT CHOICE
