BHR Hollywood Reports......."The people are in pain and need a way to get through it," Bryant told The Baltimore Sun.

He and Vanzant's hope is to get to the root of economic oppression and violence, among other issues, over the course of a three-night event (May 26-28).

Tuesday's session was focused on men, Wednesday will be on women and Thursday will be a discussion for the community.

While the event will be taped for a podcast, it will not be aired on Vanzant's OWN series, "Fix My Life."

The network issued a statement to The Root explaining that it was in no way affiliated with Vanzant's Baltimore appearance and her visit will not be a part of the upcoming season.

West Baltimore's Empowerment Temple announced Tuesday that Vanzant was invited to the city for a "healing service" with the help of Rev. Jamal Harrison Bryant.

He notes that the death of Freddie Gray-- the 25-year-old Baltimore man who suffered a severe spinal cord injury in police custody-- "pulled off the Bandaid for something that required open heart surgery."
