Miami Trick Daddy busted in Broward on firearms and drug charges

BHR HollyWood Reports......Miami rapper Trick Daddy - whose real name is Maurice Young and who has had numerous scrapes with the law since he burst onto the music scene almost two decades ago - was arrested at his Miramar home Thursday on cocaine and weapons charges.

Young, 39, born and raised in Liberty City, was nabbed by Broward Sheriff’s Office task force members who had gone to his home after securing a “sniff warrant,” a document signed by a judge that gives police permission to search outside a home with dogs.

The Sheriff’s Office complaint affidavit says a member of the Broward County Drug Task Force stopped Young as he was backing his green, two-door coupe out of his Miramar home at 16573 SW 19th St., and requested that he get out of the car.

When Young complained, the report says, the officer told him he was driving with a suspended license.

“He confirmed he was aware and asked if it was in reference to child support payments,” an officer states in the police report.

When the officer explained he was on the property because a judge had signed a “sniff warrant,” Young admitted he had cocaine and marijuana in his home, the report goes on to say. Young initially signed a consent form to enter the home, then rescinded after police entered.

Within four hours, officers had secured a search warrant that allowed them into the home. There, they found a gram of cocaine on a nightstand, ammunition, and a 9mm Sig Sauer P220 handgun under a pillow.

Trick Daddy Making headline with his Mug Shot
Young was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, and driving with a suspended license. He was released from Broward County jail on $6,100 bond early Friday.

Calls to a number listed under Young’s name were answered by a recording saying the mailbox was full. Young or any of his representatives could not be reached. Broward County records show Young lives in a 4,112 square foot home near Miramar Regional Park that he bought in 2002 for $390,000.

Young’s Twitter account, where he goes by Trick-Daddy-Dollars@305AMAYOR, hasn’t shown any activity since Wednesday. The account shows he has more than 94,000 followers. Calls to the Tulsa headquarters of one of his booking agents, Richard De La Font, went unanswered.

The front page of the popular online entertainment and gossip site TMZ displayed Young’s picture Friday, with this headline: Trick Daddy Arrested, Enters Mugshot Hall of Fame. The mugshot shows Trick Daddy bleary-eyed and sneering with a gold front tooth, his hair tussled.

Young, more commonly known as Trick Daddy, gained local popularity in 1996 after appearing on a track by Miami rapper-turned columnist Luther Campbell. Some consider his southern rap as following in the footsteps of 2 Live Crew frontman Campbell. A year later, Young’s debut album Based on a True Story was released.

Several of his singles have made it onto Billboard Magazine’s top 100 lists. He’s been produced by international rap star and DJ Lil Jon, and rocker Ozzy Osbourne lent some of his riffs to a Trick Daddy track. Hit songs include I’m a Thug, Thug Holiday and Tuck Ya Ice.

Young even once appeared as a shifty drug dealer in a movie called Just Another Day. Despite all his artistic success, Young has been consumed by troubles with the law.

He was convicted of cocaine possession and carrying a concealed weapon in 1991, and served two years in a Florida state prison. In 2003, he was charged with assault after threatening to kill a man after a basketball game. And in 2007, he was charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest after a brawl at Tootsie’s Cabaret.

TMZ reported last year that Trick Daddy was open to sitting down with rap superstar Lil Wayne over a dispute that erupted at a Miami strip club, when a member of Trick’s purported posse flicked a cigarette at Wayne’s dreads.

Trick, the site explained, remained bitter at Wayne because he had blackballed him from all the good strip joints in town.

“If I wanted to start s*** with L’il Wayne,” Trick told TMZ, “he would have been in the hospital for a different reason than a seizure.
