Dr. Dre has been named the richest music artist of the year by Forbes magazine, after earning a reported $110 million (£68.5 million) in the last 12 months.

The hip-hop mogul earned most of his income from his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones which have become a multi-million dollar lucrative empire.


The list, which was compiled between May 2011 and May 2012 and features 25 musicians, also reveal that Take That - shockingly - come in at number five with $69 million, while Roger Waters takes second place with $88 million.

Legendary crooner Elton John enters third place with $80 million with rock band U2 earning $78 million charting them at number four.

Meanwhile, Britney Spears earned a cool $58 million, with Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift tying with $57 million.

Justin Bieber's investment in Spotify has reportedly earned him $55 million in the last 12 months, while Rihanna and Lady Gaga have enjoyed an income of $53m and $52m respectively.

Others included in the top 25 are Beyonce, Jay-Z, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Diddy, Kanye West and Katy Perry.

Christmas will be a very rich one for some of music's biggest stars and their families!
