Andre 3000 Will Not Cover Jimi Hendrix's Music In Biopic No 'Purple Haze'...

It’s not long now until Andre 3000 will soon grace our screens as legendary musician Jimi Hendrix, but don’t expect to hear the OutKast rapper strumming along to any of the late guitar star's classic hits.
The 37-year-old, who portray’s Jimi in a biopic about the famous musician’s life, will instead be covering classics from the Beatles, Muddy Waters and Elvis Presley, but won’t actually be performing any Hendrix-penned songs in the film, after studio bosses failed to approach the Hendrix estate to request permission to use them.
Company Experience Hendrix LLC, run by Hendrix’s sister Janie, said that it "has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation."
Instead, producer Sean McKittrick has chosen to focus the film on Jimi’s 'pre-fame' period, such as when he jammed with Cream and met Eric Clapton, as opposed to his days in stardom, a decision which was made necessary because of the unwillingness of Hendrix’s estate to allow use of the copyrighted songs.
"This is the story of Jimi being discovered as a backup musician and how he went to London and became Jimi Hendrix," McKittrick told Rolling Stone magazine.
Currently being shot in Dublin, Ireland, the film, set in London in the late 1960’s, will include Andre's new versions of covers that Hendrix performed during the years leading up to 1967’s breakthrough debut ‘Are You Experienced.’
Despite not being granted access to Henrix’s material, producer McKittrick has applauded Andre 3000’ s ability to transform into the 27-year-old musician and get into character effortlessly.
"Andre has been Jimi for four months now," McKittrick said.
"He speaks and walks like Jimi. He dropped a ton of weight. The transformation has been amazing."
McKittrick also revealed that he hopes to screen the movie, All Is By My Side, at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, and then later to theaters.
